Gold Coast Titans to ‘debut’ in NRL Grand Final
Australian’s newest rugby league team, the Gold Coast Titans are set to take their place in the NRL with the debut of their new 60 second television commercial during Sunday’s Grand Final. Created by BCM, the television commercial features a young boy playing out a match in his mind. Having marked out his own field on an iconic sandy beach, he becomes many of the high profile Titans signings – all while on his way to scoring a match winning try. The ‘voice’ of Rugby League, Ray Warren also features in the commercial. Michael Searle, Titan’s CEO believes the appeal of the commercial is in its accessibility and ability to stand apart from traditional rugby league advertising. “From the outset, the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans have set out to do things differently, we’ve been given an exciting and very rare opportunity to launch a National sporting franchise on the Gold Coast and the aim has always been to make people sit up and take notice of the team, of the Coast and of our professional approach. We wanted to produce a TVC that would strike a chord with not only our die-hard fans, but also with the kids and their parents who might be relatively new to the Coast and to the game. This is a very exciting time not only for the club, but for all of our supporters, and so we wanted to create an emotive commercial that everyone in the community can relate to. We believe this new commercial successfully captures the essence of innocence in a scenario that every man, women and child can relate to, and that is the idea of playing out in your mind, the ideal game of orchestrating the perfect match winning performance. It’s a theme we’re confident will excite the whole community” Searle said. BCM Partner Paul Cornwell said “Our strategic planning with the team at the Titans revealed a unique approach to their brand franchise which permeated all aspects of their business from coaching, to player recruitment to sponsorship. We have really enjoyed working on a new brand with such focus and clarity. This has allowed us to move away from the traditional big hits and try scoring footage that is the norm in the NRL. We're very excited to be part of the birth of this new brand."
The Gold Coast Titans’ entry into next year’s NRL comp is eagerly anticipated following their securing of an exciting roster of both experienced and up and coming young players including Scott Prince (Tigers), Luke Bailey (Dragons) and Brian Carney (Newcastle), and most recently signing Mat Rogers, in his return to League from Union. The Titans, presently based at Gold Coast Stadium at Carrara, will start training in November, with the team launching in the 2007 NRL competition. In 2008 they will move into their new home, a brand new purpose built multi-million dollar stadium at Robina. The new TVC airs in New South Wales and Queensland from 1st October.
